Harrowing.

The main reason for harrowing is to remove dead grass, moss and thatching grass from the sward. This allows greater penetration of the main ingredients for a healthy grass growth, water, air nutrients and improves drainage of surface water.

This reduces the build up of disease, old unproductive grass, pests and encourages growth of new shoots. Like a spring-clean for your paddock!

From the two pictures below you can see the amount of old grass or thatching that can occur. This is the same piece of ground but shows how well grass can hide properties that inhibit its growth.
